X meets Windows

This is a short HowTo about the new Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Xming, the X-server for Windows. This HowTo refers to Windows 10 (build: 1703) and Xming Version (x64). You can download the Xming for free, just use your search engine.

I will describe how you can set up Xming in order to start it from “Start” menu. This HowTo won’t describe how to install WSL. This is already hone here very well. In short I will tell, how a simple Window Manager for X (openbox) is installed  and how you can launch it, too.

Sed – Renaming with Linux [Part 2]

Some time ago I wrote an article about renaming multiple filenames [1]. Now it happened I needed to rename several subtitles for Star Trek Enterprise because, I’m using a self-made mplayer-wrapper script to load subtitles automatically. Therefor the subtitle filename, usually a Sub Rip Text (.srt) file from tvsubtitles have to be in a form like S01E01 or 1x24.
